It Came In Through The Bathroom Window

It came in through the bathroom window, chirping its success. Moving ever so slowly, blending in with the background, making sure not to draw attention to itself. The beastie looked around, satisfied with the new hunting grounds. Here, there was hardly any competition, and food would be plentiful. Soon, it was joined by another.

Mittens McGrowly heard the chirping and knew intruders had entered. Staring at the closed bathroom door, she knew the defenses had been breached. Anxiously, she waited for the door to open. Nipsy Fluffle joined her. Together, they stared at the door, willing it to open. When that failed, Nipsy let out a mournful meow. Looking around, he saw the hooman servant coming to open the door. At last! Entrance was granted!

As soon as the knob was turned and the door opened, Mittens and Nipsy sprang forward into action! Swiftly, they scanned the perimeter, seeking their prey…the chirping beasties who dared invade their home! Quickly spotting them, Nipsy took a position on the floor by the door, preventing them from escaping into the main house. Mittens jumped up on the side of the bathtub, seeking to get higher in an attempt to reach the intruders, but no luck; they remained just out of reach near the window.

The hooman spotted them, too, and quietly counseled against attacking them. How can that be? They were intruders! They were invading the home! No, she said, they eat bugs, and they were welcome as long as they stayed in the bathroom. Imagine! Allowing dangerous refugees to stay just because they eat bugs! But no, she continued. Better that than spiders. At least the intruders were easier to spot. Okay, well, there was some truth to that. Still, Mittens was itching to get her paws on the intruders and teach them who was boss in the house!

It wouldn’t be the first time she’d tangled with such a beastie! She knew they were wily critters and could eject their tails to distract their attackers while they made their escape. They’d had several bob-tail beasties roaming around before. The hooman simply removed them from Mittens’ crafty claws and put them outside where they were safely out of reach. Imagine! Helping the enemy when Mittens was trying to do her job to protect her hooman and home!

Still, even if the hooman didn’t understand and take the threat seriously, Mittens and Nipsy would continue to remain vigilant and guard the premises. Nipsy sneezed, and Mittens’ tail thumped against the side of the bathtub, warning the intruders to stay out of the main house and away from their hooman, or face the consequences. The intruders moved back toward the window, chirping softly, understanding the danger of getting too complacent and straying too far from the safety of the window.

The hooman called from the door, and Nipsy and Mittens reluctantly turned to leave. They glanced back to ensure their message had been received by the intruders. The beasties slowly made their way back toward the window and out the way they came in.

Message received.
