The Purrrfect Cat is about the wonders of cats. Anyone who has ever been owned by a cat will tell you how unpredictable, funny, loveable, and generally entertaining they are. My name is Judie, and I have had no less than four rescue cats–two directly off the street–after having cats my entire life, and each and every cat has been, well, purrrfect! This blog was created to explore the wonderful world of cats; who they are, what makes them tick, their funny lovable personalities, and why we can’t seem to get enough of them! I hope you will find this entertaining as well as insightful, and maybe even a little educational.

My household is currently run by two former street cats, a tuxedo cat named Prada, and a diluted calico cat named Pastel. Prada was part of a cat colony and was roughly about six years old when he came to live with me. He had gotten an upper respiratory infection and refused to eat. I took him to the vet and decided if I was spending money on him, I wasn’t going to be putting him back out on the street. After several tests to make sure he wasn’t contagious to my other cat, he came home with me so I could give him his medication, and he’s been with me ever since. At the time, I had another rescue, Lani-Moo, a senior cat who had lost her bonded best friend, Nani. She was not thrilled about having a new housemate, but she grew to accept Prada. It was only a couple of years later that we would lose Lani-Moo to kidney disease, just before her 16th birthday. Ten months later, a kitten with the same coat color (though not the same coat pattern) as Lani-Moo appeared in our parking structure, begging for food. Several people were feeding her, trying to get close enough to get her off the street. I got close enough to scratch her ear, and when she discovered people were good at ear scratches, she melted into my hand. Pastel was about three months old when she came to live with me. She was very feisty and I informed Prada he would have his paws full with her. Prada was interested, but he never hissed at her. Prada and Pastel are not bonded like Lani-Moo and Nani were, but they do play together, wrestle together, and occasionally fight as siblings might. They’ve licked each other’s wounds and generally live in peace. Neither has shown any inclination to go outside, even for a little while, after spending their earlier lives on the street. They’ve both adapted to the life of pampered house cats!
It is because of these amazing cats, and the cats who came before them, that I am forever a cat person. Yes, I love dogs, too, but cats will always have a special place in my heart. Who can attest that when we’re sad, that soothing rumbling purr from a cat will make us feel better? Or when we’ve had a bad day, their athletic antics will have us laughing in no time? And because they are so aloof, it is that much more amazing that they seem so attuned to us that they know what we’re thinking and what we need from them. No matter who they are, every cat is The Purrrfect Cat.

This is a wonderful blog and bless you for rescuing these lovely critters. They are very lucky to have found you and they’re also very photogenic.
I can’t wait for the next post!!!
Hi Judy, you’re off to a great start. Our Calico, Momo, came over our fence two years ago and has completely taken over our lives. She’s so sweet and we love having her around. Keep up the good work.

Thank you! I’m planning on doing an article in the near future on Calico cats! Examining the myths and legends and why they’re considered lucky.
